A Chinese brand of uniform was questioned and sent by Leon Paul to be tested by a European Lab. The uniform failed that test and was subsequently "banned" for sale in Britain, if not more of Europe. According to fencing.net, Wuxi, the uniform makers have hit back -
Wuxi Denies Failure of Safety Tests - Blames Leon Paul.
I'm sure they'll be clarifying their position, in light of the explanation from LP:
In any case it appears as though the FIE will allow the uniforms to be sold and used at World Cup competitions, at least for now.
I mean, if they're going to turn a blind eye to the dangers of wearing lexan masks in the point weapons, what's a little uniform failure between friends?
Wuxi Denies Failure of Safety Tests - Blames Leon Paul.
Despite the independence of the European Consumer Affairs (RAPEX) UK
office, Wuxi alleges that Leon Paul tampered with the uniforms prior to
testing. In their statement, Wuxi claims that the failure of their
uniform is "a scheme by Leon Paul to squeeze Jiang(WUXI) Fencing
products out of UK Market, even the whole European Market."

"Leon Paul sent a brand new Wuxi FIE jacket that had not been tampered
with in any way to one of the officially accredited EN13567 test
houses. A copy of the test result was passed to Trading Standards in
the UK in August 2008 and since then Leon Paul have had nothing to do
with the case."
